The Program

The Connecticut College Swimming and Diving Program continues to grow and develop into a competitive presence in the NESCAC and the NCAA. In Coach Benvenuti's first five seasons at the helm of the Camel program, the women's team has compiled a dual-meet record of 55-9-1 and the men's team has compiled a dual-meet record of 24-24. In this stretch of time, 84 team records have been broken.

Both the Men's and Women's programs are coming off the most successful season in the program's history. The Camel Women improved their highest finish in program history from last year's meet, placing 4th at NESCAC's scoring 1044.5 points. The Camel Men recorded their highest-ever finish, placing 5th at NESCAC's scoring 918.5 points.

The Camel teams combined to set 17 college records this past season. The Women broke 6 records, recorded 4 NCAA 'B' cuts, and Coach Benvenuti was named NESCAC Coach of the Year at the conference meet for the second year in a row. Next year holds much to look forward to, with the members of the Class of 2011 comprising the strongest class yet for the program.

The Men broke 11 college records, recorded 9 NCAA ‘B' cuts, and the future is similarly bright. Both Pat Troy ('10) and Grant Moryan ('10) were invited to the NCAA Championships in Houston, TX.  Troy placed 13th in the 100 yard butterfly and Moryan placed 10th in the 100 yard freestle both earning NCAA All-American Honorable Mention awards.   With just two seniors on the team, the team remains young. The team has also never been stronger with the addition of the eight members of the Class of 2011, the deepest class in program history. It is indeed an exciting time to be a Camel.

The Camel program offers an innovative and unique training program that emphasizes race specific training. The program thrives on highly specialized training both in and out of the water. The Connecticut College Swimming and Diving program is designed to maximize each swimmer's potential. The Camel season officially begins on November 1st and concludes in March after the NCAA championships. Individual practice schedules are created based on pre-season goal setting meetings. Aside from the regular dual meet and conference meet season, the team spends 16 days in Naples, Florida over winter break. The ‘training trip' consists of two-a-day practices and time spent on the beach. Many of the Camel swimmers are active in other aspects of campus life, including varsity sports such as field hockey and rowing as well as student government, music, and community service.
