January 23, 2010 MIDDLETOWN, Conn.--The Connecticut College swimming and diving teams visited Wesleyan University for a dual meet in Middletown Saturday. The men (7-3) defeated the Cardinals 151-143 in their sixth straight win while the women (7-3) secured a 154-144 victory.
Senior Kristen Zarba (Beverly, Mass.) notched three wins to lead the Camel women. In the 200 yard butterfly, Zarba posted a winning time of 2:12.81. Zarba triumphed in both the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle events with respective times of 5:18.17 and 10:53.18. Sophomore Erika Fernandes (Westport, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of clutch wins, taking the 50 yard free in 24.81 seconds and adding a victory in the 200 yard breast with a time of 2:31.53. In the 100 yard breast, Katie Karlson (Wayland, Mass.) posted a winning time of 1:11.80. In the 100 yard freestyle, Sarah Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.), Caitlin Munns (Westfield, Mass.) and MacKenzie Lilly (Frederick, Md.) finished first, second and third in a clean sweep for the Camels with respective times of 55.48, 56.25 and 56.37 seconds. In the 200 yard medley relay, Jessica Schanzer (Monterey, Calif.), Katie Karlson, Leigh Weymouth (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and Erika Fernandes combined on a winning time of 1:54.30 for Connecticut College. In the men's action, Tim Walsh (Lincoln Park, N.J.), Grant Moryan (Westfield, N.J.) and Pat Troy (Bradford, N.H.) won multiple events for the Camels. Walsh triumphed in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke with winning times of 53.50 seconds and 1:58.07. Moryan won the 50 and 100 yard free in 22.05 and 48.24 seconds. In the 50 free, the Camels swept with Austin Meszaros (Morristown, N.J.) and Brian Finnerty (Garden City, N.Y.) holding down second and third place behind Moryan with times of 22.26 and 22.38 seconds. In the 100 and 200 yard butterfly events, Troy topped the field with victories in 51.54 seconds and 1:56.68. Other winners for the Camels included Harry Squires (Caldwell, N.J.) in the 1,000 yard free (10:11.11) and Sam Perley (Charlotte, N.C.) in the 100 yard breast (1:00.81). The Camel men added a pair of wins in relay events. In the 200 yard medley relay, the foursome comprised of Tim Walsh, Sam Perley, Pat Troy and Austin Meszaros posted a time of 1:36.35. Troy, Walsh, Meszaros and Grant Moryan won the 400 yard free relay in 3:12.11. |
